History of School
The Dandenong Parish School was established in 1963 and serves the Russian Community in the Eastern, South Eastern and Bayside suburbs of Melbourne.
View the School ChoirThe Dandenong Parish School is an integral part of the Dandenong Parish of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad which is registered under the Religious and Successory Trusts Act, 1958, and it is from this Act that the School derives its legal status.
The Children on Stage
For many years the school operated on Saturdays out of premises including; the Parish Hall, Dandenong South Primary School and Dandenong AMES Centre. In February 1998 the Dandenong Parish School moved into its own premises at the Russian Community Centre in Kirkham Road, Dandenong South.
The Pushkin Prize Competition
All lessons are conducted in Russian in an atmosphere which is designed to encourage the students to respect and enhance their knowledge of their cultural heritage. During the past five years a number of new teachers have joined the school with teaching experience from both Russia and the Ukraine. This has enhanced the quality of service provision and complimented the work done by émigré teachers in the past. The school operates in close harmony with the local Russian Orthodox parish and the families of all students, to ensure meaningful and harmonious learning experiences.
Music Lessons
In addition to its core curriculum, the Dandenong Parish School has provided from time to time, such extra curricula programmes as: adult Russian classes, Catechisms, Russian history and geography studies and national dancing and choral workshops. Families interested in these activities should discuss the matter with the School Principal.
Our Young Performers
In January 1999, the Dandenong Parish School joined with the Russian Orthodox parish schools in Melbourne and Geelong to form the Victorian Deanery Russian School. Today the Deanery School operates from three campuses.
